UK’s ethnic minorities are keeping the faith

It has been noted that Emma Raducanu, the most scrutinised teenager on the planet, sometimes sports a pendant cross while playing tennis, and various explanations have been proffered: she thinks the crucifix looks cool; it’s a family heirloom; it’s a signal of support for China’s persecuted Christians. I have no inside info, for all I know she might just be a fan of George Michael’s look in the Faith era, but it alerts us to an interesting phenomenon: that public declarations of religiosity in contemporary British public life are almost entirely the preserve of British ethnic minority sportspeople.
