Labour calls for tolerance as poll reveals hostility towards Muslims

Labour has warned that there is “more work to do” to build tolerance in Scotland after a poll found more than twice as many voters would regard increased immigration from Muslim countries as bad for the country rather than a good thing.

The latest Panelbase survey for The Sunday Times found that about one in five (19 per cent) believe that the possibility of about 10,000 people from majority Muslim countries into Scotland each year for the next five years would be a positive development. However, 44 per cent said they would view it negatively while 37 per cent would consider it to be neither negative nor positive.
